The Illinois Equine Hospital & Clinic is located approximately 40 miles west of Chicago, Illinois. We see about 2,200 cases a year, 1,000 of which become surgical cases. Approximately 550 cases are arthroscopic surgery, 120 are colic surgery and the balance are a variety of musculoskeletal or soft tissue injuries. The medical cases are primarily abdominal or respiratory in nature. The majority of outpatient cases are lameness examinations. The case load is extremely varied with a large variety of horse types represented; thoroughbreds, standardbreds, hunter/jumpers, eventers, dressage, quarter horses, and pleasure horses. The hospital has two exam rooms equipped to take radiographs. The surgical suite has a hydraulic table and two recovery stalls. The accompanying barn can house up to 23 horses, including 4 isolation stalls. The hospital staff includes six veterinarians, of which 2 are board certified surgeons.
